The big question now is whether we’ll see a StarCraft 3 at some point in the future, or if Blizzard is done with real-time strategy games. While that may not be what StarCraft 2 fans want to hear, it’s impressive that the game has been supported for the past 10 years. In a statement to its website, the company says that it won’t be releasing a Q4 balance update since StarCraft 2 just received an update a few months ago, but it will continue shipping those balance updates “as needed in the future.” StarCraft: Remastered upgrades Blizzard Entertainment’s original sci-fi real-time strategy game and its acclaimed expansion, StarCraft: Brood War, from beginning to end. In addition, while Blizzard’s Heroes announcement meant the end of HGC and, by extension, the end of Heroes of the Storm esports, the professional scene for StarCraft 2 will still continue on through ESL Gaming and GSL. While Blizzard kept some developers on Heroes of the Storm to continue producing new content at a slower pace, it sounds like StarCraft 2 is essentially in maintenance mode, with Blizzard saying that it will only continue doing season rolls and “necessary balance changes moving forward.” ![]() It isn't clear at this point what Blizzard has up its sleeve going forward, but with the end of an era will hopefully come some big developments.It wasn’t too long ago that Blizzard made a similar announcement concerning Heroes of the Storm, but the two situations are still somewhat different. However, StarCraft: Remastered debuted in 2017, and offered a way for players both new and old to experience the original game that started it all with modern graphics and other important updates. It's been since 2015 since the standalone expansion pack StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void debuted. As far as what players can look forward to, Blizzard has noted that being freed up for what essentially amounts to brainstorming extends beyond StarCraft 2 into the "StarCraft universe as a whole." There will be no further updates this year, but there will be future updates "as needed" in the future. It supports all map-making features available using the default map editor (StarEdit), but also supports additional features such as non-isometrical and e. "What this means is that we’re not going to be producing additional for-purchase content, such as Commanders and War Chests, but we will continue doing season rolls, and necessary balance fixes moving forward." In a recent blog post, the developer announced that it would be ending production on additional "for-purchase content" for the game in the near future. Blizzard is looking to wind down further development on real-time strategy game StarCraft 2.
